Wow, that is awesome. Thanks! I figured out that Firefox will let me have the new search bar right where my old Yahoo one was. It's totally unobtrusive and seems like a great way to support GCN. We've raised a combined total of more than $400 for GCN since this started... that's awesome!

I hope that things work out for you guys! I will pray for you!

Hey, everyone!

I totally realized we hadn't announced the update to this topic - we're open again on Fridays!

When we had some staff changes in late-summer, we were able to move our full-time staff back to a 5-day work week. That being said, GCN is still only *just* pulling in enough each month to keep going. Prayers and financial contributions are definitely appreciated!

Thanks!

In Christ,

Nate :-)

This may seem like a dumb question, but what do you guys do 5 days a week in an office? I don't mean to be rude or anything, but what goes on?

That's definitely not a dumb question...actually, it's a good one!

When GCN first began, Justin was the only employee and was able to do everything necessary from his apartment. That was nine years ago. Now, GCN has three full-time employees and hundreds of volunteers. Some of the things done by GCN include:

- Working with churches across the country
- Maintaining a community of over 17,000 worldwide, that includes online and offline activities
- Working with other organizations to build bridges between the LGBT and Christian communities
- Organizing, and sometimes facilitating, speaking engagements across the country
- Planning an annual conference that brings together hundreds of people from around the world
- Providing support to individuals, families, churches, and others on a daily basis

With all that is going on at GCN, it makes the most sense to have a centralized office space to most-efficiently work on projects. When questions come up, people are all in one space to work on an answer. Viewed from another perspective, it also makes sense to have a physical office space to help employees (and future employees) keep a healthy separation from work and home.

I hope that helps answer your question. If not, I am most-definitely open to help provide more answers!

In Christ,

Nate

So, if everyone takes a TWO-HOUR lunch break, would that help???

Glad to know GCN is back to working all 5 days. And thanks for the breakdown of what you all do in the office--do we really have 17,000 members, or does that number include friends who are not on the site?

We really do have over 17,000 members. Some are more-active than others, but there are, quite literally, thousands of GCNers now!

Time to update our Wikipedia article! Is that number published on the site anywhere? Right now, the About page still lists "only" () 15,000.

P.S.: The article mentions the database of affirming churches, but it has only an archived link for that resource, and I can't find anything about the database on any of the public links. Are we still keeping that database, and if so, where is the information located on the site?

Thanks!

Oh, the ever-informative and accurate Wikipedia!

We do, in fact, still have a database of welcoming churches (WelcomingChurches.com), but haven't been publicizing it lately. Reason being, the database is being updated and adjusted significantly. It still works, but we're not publicizing it until the updates are complete.

Hey, now, I watch over that page and try to keep it up-to-date!

Thanks. I just need a citation that's as up-to-date as possible -- anything that could connect GCN with WC.com. If there's a mention of GCN on the WC page, I can use that to replace the out-of-date reference that's currently in the article.

Okay--I fixed that issue. Is there anything else in the article that needs updating. For instance, is the budget still $200K?

Let me know and I'll correct it.

(You can always PM me any information that needs to be updated in the Wiki article.)

Our current fiscal year operating budget is $160,000. Our fiscal year ends at the end of April, so, an updated budget will come then!
