Welcome to our Southeast Region GCN community!
The vision of Gay Christian Network in the Southeast Region is to build a Christ-centered community of gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and straight believers. SER is a large region encompassing three states, Florida, Georgia, & South Carolina, with diverse areas, people and perspectives. Many of us have come to this Web site and/or our gatherings for various reasons – some to meet and develop new friends, some to explore the journey of reconciling faith and sexuality, some to live out a lifestyle of faith within the context of being gay, some to connect with others who affirm a lifestyle of celibacy, and some that are seeking conversation as they discern why God has led them to this particular crossroad in their lives. Among the diversity of reasons why we are here, one of our goals is to develop a tangible sense of community with each other.
As the Southeast Region GCN Group Leader and Facilitator, I work with GCN’s organizational leadership to communicate the needs, culture, and climate of our community here in Southeastern United States. I also work to help facilitate the vision of GCN in the SER. I’m here to serve your needs, questions or concerns. If there is anything I can do for you, please feel free to contact me via private message or through email at southeast@gaychristian.net
Opportunities to Connect
There are numerous opportunities to connect with new friends as we strive to develop a tangible sense of community. We recognize that we all have different backgrounds, personalities, and social comfort levels. In what ever way that you feel safe and comfortable, we encourage you to be intentional about connecting with others.
1. Participate in discussion threads in the forums on this Web site.
2. Come to Local Area Gatherings or events to meet new people near you.
3. Come to SER Regional Gatherings to meet people in other areas.
4. Meet with others one on one in a safe, healthy, and friendly environment to get to know each other more personally.
5. As you develop new friendships, find ways of hanging out with two or three others informally. Schedule a time to meet for coffee, go to lunch or dinner, see a movie, or participate in a shared interest or activity.
We realize that some are comfortable with getting to know a small group of friends better, some are comfortable one on one, and some are comfortable meeting many different people. It's up to you to determine what you feel comfortable with! As you connect with people, we encourage you to do so with respect, friendship, discernment, and sensitivity to the diversity of our community.
Opportunities to Grow
As you begin to develop natural friendships with people that you feel comfortable and safe with, you can also explore ways of growing your faith together. We recognize that we all have different expressions of our faith in Christ. We encourage you to explore what a lifestyle of faith looks like for you and how you can walk with others to help one another grow closer to God and develop the Christ within.
1. Meet with one or two friends and read a passage or book in the Bible together.
2. Ask someone you trust to pray with you about something on your heart.
3. Offer to pray for someone when you discover he or she has a need.
4. Visit a new church service that a friend attends.
5. Get together with a handful of friends to sing worship songs and/or pray together.
There are many ways that you can grow your faith in community with others!
Opportunities to Serve
As a community of people, each of us has value. There are many ways to give back. There are many ways to serve. We encourage you to explore how you can contribute to our community by identifying things that you are naturally interested, concerned, or passionate about and simply live it out. If each of us takes the initiative to do what God has blessed us to do, then we will all be blessed and grow as a community of believers.
