Profanity

Our message board community includes children, parents, and others who prefer not to be subjected to explicit language. Out of consideration to these individuals, GCN's message board is intended to be a profanity-free zone. This includes profanity that is only "partially censored" (l*ke th*s).

Sexual Innuendo

Because our community includes minors and is designed to be a "clean" and safe space for all, we ask that you refrain from sexual innuendo and flirting in public areas of GCN. Of course, some issues relating to human sexuality may naturally come up due to the nature of the community, so we have a special set of sexual content guidelines to help provide avenues for discussion without compromising the safe space.

Pornographic Materials/Links

Please do not post pornographic images on our site or link to sites containing adult images, including gay personals sites.

Anti-Christian Comments

Because we are a diverse community, we may not always agree on Christian doctrinal issues. You are therefore welcome to bring up issues that may be controversial in some Christian circles, provided you do so in a respectful manner. However, campaigning for alternate religions or directly attacking Christianity itself is not allowed.

Anti-GLBT Comments

We welcome straight people who wish to support their gay brothers and sisters! And if you're straight and have some questions, that's fine. However, please keep in mind that our purpose is for supporting GLBT Christians, and posts which take away from the safety of that space are not allowed. Asking, "What's it like to be gay?" is fine. Asking people to defend themselves against Bible passages is not.

Ex-Gay Materials/Links

GCN is for supporting gay Christians. We do not allow the promotion of so-called "ex-gay" ministries. GCN policy is to avoid linking directly to ex-gay sites, even for critiques. These organizations have caused many to walk away from Christ, and we don't want to give them any extra publicity.

Personal Information (addresses, phone numbers, etc.)

For legal and safety reasons and because we have minors on the site, we ask all members to refrain from posting any personal contact information in public spaces on GCN. This includes personal phone numbers, e-mail addresses, messenger screennames, personal homepages, online profiles, or physical addresses. If you wish to communicate with other members privately, you may use our private messaging system to share this information.

"Pot Stirring"

GCN is a very diverse community with members from many different backgrounds. We work very hard to maintain a peaceful, loving, friendly atmosphere for all, and it's not always easy. For this reason, we ask members to refrain from posts that "stir the pot." This includes posts designed primarily to encourage debate or disagreement or complain about GCN or its members. Attention-seeking posts such as emotional "goodbye threads" in which a member lists ways they feel they've been wronged while announcing their exit from the community (often to return only days later) are a common type of pot-stirrer in many message board communities, so we ask our members to let others know of any temporary or permanent leaves of absence in private rather than on our public board.
